A little more complicated answer is a product that is created by one person so that many people can use it as either a consumer of that product or the owner of the product. Think of the pharmaceutical industry, and how one company manufactures the generic over the counter drugs for most of the stores who sell them. Sometimes they are also the ones who produce the name brand products on the same production line. The generic over the counter drugs are private label, and it is only the packaging that is different from the name brand merchandise.

But selling the PLR is not the only thing you can do with it.

Often, ebooks can be taken apart and added to membership sites as part of the drip fed content for that site. Drip feeding content simply means it comes out a little each day, week or month instead of all in one clump.

The Expert

One of the best reasons for using PLR for your membership site or products to sell is that you do not have to be the expert in a particular niche (subject) until you have already made some sales. Why spend months becoming an expert in siamese cat training when you can buy a private label ebook on it and test out the market with that and save your research time for after you have determined that your audience wants more.

In fact, some of the biggest sellers of baby products have never been around a baby, but they purchased some PLR products, set up a sales page and drove traffic to it. That is really all it takes.

If you ARE a "gun owner" (kudos!) then your first instinct may be to start blasting away.

Start with the front door lowlife and work your way onto the next vermin, right?

But a home invasion requires tactical thinking BEYOND just the point and shoot reaction many gun owners have instilled in themselves from typical range training.

So let’s break it down a little bit further and really tap into your cranium…

Your home invasion battle plan:

First, you don’t know what these guys are going to do or even how many of them there are.

Being the smart "thinking shooter" that you are, you know…

Your living room is NOT the best defensive position!  Too many entries and exits and it’s easy to shoot through walls so you’re more likely to get shot

You know you have an attacker at the front and at the back and in your adrenalized state, your peripheral vision goes to hell in a handbasket.

You have family in different areas of the house and no time to take a firing position AND corral them to safety.

So what do you do?

1. You need a "code word" for your family so that they all know how to spring into action.  
   Forget the Spec Ops secret code. "ESCAPE" works much better than "RED WOLF". Simple…to the point.
2. Have a "safe room" set up in your house where everyone can retreat to at the same time.  
   It needs to be stocked with several items to be prepared for surviving the upcoming fight.  
   The list isn’t all that long, but it’s longer than what can be listed here (more on that in a minute).  
   But you KNOW you need to have a phone to call law enforcement, right? Use it!
3. DON’T leave your safe room!
   Assuming you have those you love with you, don’t be one of the idiots who puts on his cape and decides to go take the fight to the guys invading your home.

Hunker down in a corner to the opposite side of the opening of the door so you have maximum time to make a shooting decision and are the last thing the home invaders see when busting in.

You have the advantage in this case because they have to assess the room before making a move (is anyone in the room;where are they; recover; reorganize; act)

You just have to decide whether to shoot or not and you already know that either it’s a bad guy coming for you or the police coming to rescue you.

(hint: don’t shoot the police)  

Stay in place until the police arrive, even if you think the threat is gone.

• You have a loved one taken hostage?

This guy named Cody Moya was offering this membership site where you get Private Label Rights to thousands of products for $97 per month. That was a steal, but he also gave me a free month and 7 private label rights products, too. So I went a ahead and used the coupon code he sent me (how did I get on his list?).

I was bombarded with no less than 7 upsells and OTO’s and downsells before I was actually allowed to download my 7 free plr products. I am all for trying to make some money from giving away stuff, but this guy gives one time offers a bad name!

When I finally arrived at the download page, here was a list of 8 steps for downloading the 7 PLR products.

First step, was an affiliate link. Step two, an affiliate link – as were steps three, four, five, six and eight! Step seven was the only one that took me to the downloads. Then at the very bottom, under the 8 steps, is the link to access the Private Label Wholesaler account.

After downloading my 7 PLR products, I went to the Private Label Wholesaler (PLW) account, still expecting more offers, but instead, I actually arrived at my destination. I logged in to the account and arrived at a page that explained the rights that came with all the PLR from Private Label Wholesaler. Basically, the terms of the site state that you have Private Label, Master Reseller and Reseller Rights to all of the products in Private Label Wholesaler for as long as you are a paying member of PLW.

If you wish to continue selling these products, you must pay a reseller fee of $197 to keep selling them. I canceled my membership before I could read whether that was $197 for each product or $197 for all of the products I had downloaded. I understand the deal with keeping the value of the products, but when I can buy the same exact Private Label Products from my friend Stuart Halpryn at Netactivated for pennies on the dollar with never an extra fee, then I would be certifiably crazy with a touch of moronicism. I was freakin’ astounded that this guy is still in business (Moya), especially since that time a few years ago when he told his list (how did I get on that guy’s freakin’ list) that if they had already purchased a particular product from someone else, they should refund it and buy from him, since he was offering the biggest, baddest bonus to win this affiliate contest.

He may have changed his ways for affiliate marketing (since he has never told anyone to refund a product in order to buy from him since then), but his business model of charging $97 per month for a product depository where you can get the same products for $2.75 somewhere else is outlandish when you consider that you have to keep paying that $97 or take the product off your sales page.

If anything, you might want to download everything, then find the ones that sell by putting them on your website, then go buy the PLR rights from someone else selling the same product at a much more reasonable price and cancel your PLW membership. You do have 30 days, after all, and you won’t have a nightmare trying to remember which website had which product from PLW so that you can take them down…

First is a site that lets you pull RSS feeds together into widgets that you can post on your own website, blog, Myspace or Facebook profile. There are way more uses for it than what I am describing, but it is very useful if you are planning on adding content to a site, but were wondering how to make it usable.

Go Gators!

Newsgator is a free resource that makes it much easier to use articles, affiliate product feeds or even video feeds in your blogs and social network accounts. The feeds can be controlled based on number of posts and you can even combine more than one feed into a widget. I used this on one of my travel blogs and it really turned out good. You can also change the colors to make it more closely match your website design.

One of the other tools for bloggers is not free, but it is very inexpensive at $9.95 per month. It allows you to post to your blogs at whatever interval you choose, and you can even set your blog posts up to go out on specific dates and times up to a year ahead!

Post Later is the site and it also interfaces with Ping.fm, another amazing tool that you should be using. The most awesome part about http://postlater.net is that you can take a blog post, schedule it to go out on a particular day, then start building anticipation by having Post Later send excerpts from these blog posts along with a link to the post to all of your social networks at the same time. You can get an awful lot of traction by breaking your articles into nuggets that give away content and force people back to your blog to get the rest…

If you are a prolific writer, you can really put Post Later to work for you. You write a years worth of articles for each specific blog and set them up to be broadcast either one per day or every other day. This can really save you a lot of time:

Since I mentioned Ping.fm, I had better tell you a little more about it. This site lets you access blogs, social networks and microblogs from one convenient site. You can update all of your statuses in one post, without logging into all of the social networks, so you are keeping everyone updated consistently. This is great for reaching more people, because not all social networks attract the same people. You may like LinkedIn, because it has more professionals than Facebook… that is not my point, the point is, more people will have access to your message if YOU are on all of those networks, and ping.fm is the way to make certain that your message is getting on those networks!

So hopefully you can see how making use of all of these tools could make your content viral! The more people are talking about you or reading about you, the better the impact you are going to make!
